"KVINFO's mentor network - Corps of Role Models with ethnic minority backgroud
• Women with an ethnic minority background aged 27-50 years of age
• Have been in Denmark between 1 to 32 years
• Working professionals, teachers/instructors or students in the following fields; social and health workers, nursing, pedagogy, economy, language
Background
Many women with ethnic minority background are faced with a row of barriers and do not know how they can overcome them. Some of these women miss opportunities and give up because they believe they are not capable of handling them. Therefore, it is necessary for good stories to inspire and work towards defining concrete advice and guidance. Role models attend to their sense of helplessness with advice, guidance and by sharing their own stories and experiences.
In connection with the project, an exhibition will be held at the Womens Museum from September 2008.
Topic
The role models will begin their stories by talking about how they found a job or how they became involved in a study course despite not speaking Danish as a mother tongue, wearing a headscarf, having a foreign name, having a home and family to look after or being single mothers.
Role Models and KVINFO's mentor network
The project is a new offer in KVINFOS's mentor network at the Women's Museum and many of the role models are members of the mentor network. This is therefore also an opportunity to hear about their experiences with the mentor network. Read more about the KVINFO's mentor network on www.mentor.kvinfo.dk or www.kvindemuseet.dk/mentornet
